CRC Endorses Key Priorities from Our Joint Submission on Colombia

CRC Endorses Key Priorities from Our Joint Submission on Colombia

The Committee on the Rights of the Child has issued its Concluding Observations on Colombia’s combined sixth and seventh periodic reports, reaffirming several critical recommendations that closely align with the joint submission we presented.

The Committee highlighted the importance of increasing coverage and accessibility of early childhood education, directly addressing the persistent barriers to access and limited availability we highlighted. It also called for increased, transparent, and participatory budget allocations for children’s rights. In addition, the Committee urged Colombia to further develop its data collection systems, in line with our recommendation for a unified, public, and accessible system to monitor service delivery and spending. The Concluding Observations also reinforced the need to ensure real and effective mechanisms for children and their families to participate in decisions that affect them, echoing our call for meaningful engagement in public life and policymaking.

These recommendations underscore the continued importance of human rights mechanisms in recognising that financing quality public services, including those in early childhood care and education, is essential to the realisation of human rights.

Their relevance to our advocacy strategy is clear. Implementing these recommendations can lead to tangible improvements in the lives of children in Colombia. As a civil society organisation, we will continue to work with local partners to monitor the state’s progress and ensure that these commitments translate into concrete policy changes, budget decisions, and service improvements. We remain committed to holding the state accountable for guaranteeing quality, inclusive, and publicly funded early childhood care and education for all.
